It is with a mixture of sadness and disbelief that we announce the demise of The Glenferrie Rotarian.
After 51 years of faithful service, the publication has been abruptly terminated following the discovery of a critical issue that makes further publication impossible.
Since its first edition, The Glenferrie Rotarian has dutifully reported on club activities, celebrated member achievements, shared knowledge, promoted fellowship, and occasionally reminded members that registrations close at midnight. Generations of Rotarians have relied upon it to keep abreast of club news, projects, and events. But the end of the road has, as they say, come at last. To learn more click on ‘Read more…’
Fortunately, while the name is disappearing, the publication itself is not.
The cause of this unfortunate development can be traced to a little-known provision buried deep within the Rotary Code of Policies:
"Clubs shall not use the word 'Rotarian' as part of the name of the local club publication."
— Rotary Code of Policies, Article 34.040.15
It appears that after more than half a century, somebody finally read the fine print.
As a result, the final edition of The Glenferrie Rotarian will be Vol. 54, No. 29 — officially making this The Last of the Rotarians.
The search is now underway for a new title, with publication set to continue from the first edition of the new Rotary year. Suggestions received so far include:
| The Glenferrie Gossiper The Glenferrie Whisperer The Glenferrie Grapevine The Ferrie Tale The Ferrie Wheel Ferrie Good News Glenferrie Rumours | The Glenferrie Grapevine The Glenferrie Chronicle The Glenferrie Report The Glenferrie Gazette The Glenferrie Insider The Glenferrie Bulletin |
Members are invited to submit additional suggestions before the presses roll again under a new banner. email here
The name may be changing, but the stories, photographs, achievements, fellowship, and occasional reminders about registration deadlines will continue. Who knows, there may even be a joke or two!
So send in your Rotary stories!
