The Boroondara Farmers Market embraced the festive spirit on Saturday 18 July, transforming Patterson Reserve into a cheerful Christmas in July celebration. Despite a surprisingly low turnout of just 36 stallholders, more than 900 patrons enjoyed the market, making the most of a gloriously sunny winter’s day. Together with Santa in a funny hat, highlights of the morning were the Christmas-themed raffle, with a basket of festive goodies up for grabs and the ever-popular Rotary Christmas Cake stall, well organised by Joanne Shentu. The lucky raffle winner will be drawn at the Rotary Club of Glenferrie meeting on 28 July.
Adding to the fun was Rotarian Lawrie Mann, who stepped into the role of Santa Claus with great enthusiasm. Pictured with Christmas in July organiser Jenny deVos, Santa was reportedly responsible for alarming innocent children and small furry animals wherever he ventured, although no formal complaints have yet been received!
The festive atmosphere was further enhanced by the music of Felix and his Band of Renown, whose lively performance kept market-goers entertained throughout the morning.
With sunshine, music, good food and plenty of Christmas cheer, it was a memorable day enjoyed by all who attended and another successful community event for the market. Money raised through the Boroondara Farmers Market goes towards Rotary's humanitarian and education projects locally and throughout the world.
