URGENT APPEAL - NEPAL DISASTER
We have all seen the dreadful images and videos of the unbelievable destruction in Nepal as a result of the flash flood yesterday. Rotary has sprung into action to help. Please consider a donation to this urgent appeal for funds.
Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) has today established an appeal fund for the Nepal disaster.
This is the link to the appeal. Tax deductible donations can be made immediately.

With your help, RAWCS will continue to establish contacts through Rotary clubs in Nepal, using our existing Rotary network to deliver humanitarian aid in the affected areas.

Farmers Market Patronage Growing

Well the Council's compost may not have turned up for Garden Day at the Boroondara Farmers Market, but the patrons and stallholders sure did. There were of course all the usual fabulous produce and food stalls, but the Council's Sustainability stall proved popular, with their amazing seed bombs and seedling give-aways. Attendances continue to grow for the market, which is very good news with spring just around the corner. The next market this coming Saturday, August 29th, will be the ever popular doggy day. So bring your pooch and enjoy a morning's shopping with friends, including four-legged ones. Now that's something special you won't get at the supermarket!

On Tuesday 18th August, The Rotary Club of Glenferrie (“RCG”) participated in annual Swinburne Employment Expo, to provide graduating students the opportunity to understand issues related to future employment; being a volunteer or part time or full time in work and to learn about volunteering in Rotary.

It also gave RCG the opportunities to present our Club and hear what students are looking for in the transition to employment.

Sign Up For All the Fun at The Bunnings Sausage Sizzle

As a Peacebuilder Club, the Rotary Club of Glenferrie will host a famous sausage sizzle at Bunnings Hawthorn on Saturday 12th to raise funds for ShelterBox, the global humanitarian organisation that began with an idea from just one Rotary club in the UK.

ShelterBox provides emergency shelter and supplies for people just like you and me who are suffering after a natural, or man-made, disaster. Right now, over 120 million people around the world have been made homeless by disaster and conflict. ShelterBox is working to change this. By providing emergency shelter and tools for families robbed of their homes by disaster, ShelterBox is transforming despair into hope. Please help! Volunteer now. Cooks, sales and service staff required.

Glenferrie Rotarians: Making a Difference at RIMERN

The Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network (RIMERN) is a multi club Rotary project operating in inner Melbourne, providing furniture, appliances and homewares to welfare agency clients who have experienced homelessness, domestic violence, incarceration, refugee displacement and other crises. The program is now firmly established as a significant component of our club's community service. It is supported by more than twenty Rotary clubs and our club provides volunteers for a half day every month.

Forced Organ Harvesting. What is it and what can we do about it?

Sophie Chen and Amy Yan are members of the End Forced Organ Harvesting Satellite Club, Distrioct 5710, Kansas USA which received its charter in June 2022. Forced organ harvesting, a crime against humanity, has been going on for over 20 years. Its success is a great example of how cause-based clubs can support satellite clubs with a niche focus related to theirs and grow Rotary's impact. Forced organ harvesting is the systematic, non-consensual removal of vital organs from living or recently executed humans for profit or state use, most prominently occurring in China. It primarily targets detained prisoners of conscience, such as Falun Gong practitioners and Uyghur Muslims. Sophie and Amy are young professionals lviong in Melbourne, who have committed themselves thropugh Rotary to helping stamp out this invidious trade in humanity.
