The Small Comforts Project - provides care packs and clothing to vulnerable people within Mental Health Units of Royal Melbourne, St Vincent’s, The Alfred and Box Hill hospitals. The Mental Health Unit at St Vincent's Hospital is where we prepared and delivered our current care packs to.
This act of kindness settles the patients at a time of stress; indirectly making the job of the nursing staff easier. We are also told that the program improves the care and recovery of patients and leads to shorter hospital stays.
The Rotary Club of Hawthorn runs the program in conjunction with a number of other Rotary Clubs, including Glenferrie, where one or two people from the clubs help prepare the care packs. Packs consist of a notebook, colour pencils, pen, deodorant, lip balm, moisturiser, socks and hairbrush. Some of the products are donated with others being sourced.

The input from our Club is a donation of $2,000, 1 – 2 persons to assist with packing each 3 months, along with a driver to assist with delivery to St Vincent’s Hospital.
A project taking minimal time along with a small monetary outlay resulting in a worthwhile outcome.
