Thelma & another RoCAN team member - RoCAN 2021

ROCAN (Rotarians Against Ovarian Cancer) was established as a Trust by the Rotary Club of Williamstown in 2003 at the request of Yvonne Moon OAM a member of the Club. Yvonne's close friend had passed away, having been diagnosed with late stage Ovarian cancer.

The original aims of ROCAN were to raise public awareness of ovarian cancer and to fund research into finding an early screening test for the disease. The goals and projects of ROCAN have broadened over time but remain cancer focused.  ROCAN was incorporated on 25 May 2020 and is endorsed as a registered charity by the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission.
Prior to Yvonne's death in late 2020, ROCAN were considering building an accommodation and wellness Centre at Werribee, however following a feasibility study it was decided not to proceed with construction.
Instead, ROCAN are proposing that funds be pooled with another like-minded charity to create a larger Centre located within walking distance of the major hospitals in Melbourne. The facility will provide a place for families to stay overnight whilst their loved ones receive treatment. Discussions are underway.

For almost 20 years ROCAN have organized a "Ride to District Conference" cycling event, raising over $1,000,000 from that event alone. Due to the delay in deciding the location of the District Conference this year, it was decided that the 7 day ride will take place from March 19 - 25 taking in the towns of Warrigal, Traralgon, Foster, Cowes and Inverloch.

This is my fourth year as a rider in the event and I am aiming to ride the full course of 616 kms.
