Rotary Theme – Maternal and Child Health Month
So, when is a punch in the face acceptable? It would appear Hollywood, that reflects the “good” in society also has double standards, where an Oscar Winner can get away with unacceptable behaviour! It is never acceptable to abuse another via violent or verbal assault. No matter what the grievances, Will Smith demonstrated the worst in our society. A bad role model for our youth. Alopecia is not a laughing matter, but a dignified approach of verbal rebuttal would seem a civilized person’s path of reply. I hope our youth, who idolise these “actors” will see through his ego driven error.
We appear to have many differences within our club, and I welcome the diversity. Please remember that everyone has an opinion and no matter how diverse, we need to let them air this. However verbal misuse of words can lead to embarrassment and even “assault” in a legal sense.
Terrace Party – Thanks to the huge number who turned up to our annual BBQ on the terrace. The weather was forgiving. The speeches (I hope) were minimal. We had so many partners attend as well. We must remember to have this next year.
Rugby tops - If you want to try on a size, please go the Glenferrie Store “Dobsons”. You may resist all the fine clothes there if you can. Contact Ian to order more. Polo tops continue to be an issue for ordering and design, watch this space.
Rotary logo – There is now a push by Rotary International to make everyone aware of the correct branding for our club. The idea is to present a unified and conforming image for better professionalism and marketing. In particular, the Rotary wheel does not contain blue anymore. Please go to “My Rotary” and study the changes in the Brand Centre.
Ukraine Fund relief – “The invasion of Ukraine by the Russian military has unleashed unimaginable misery on a civilian population, in scenes that have horrified the world. Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) have set up a fund, sponsored by the Rotary clubs of Sydney Cove and Kyiv, Ukraine to meet immediate lifesaving needs of the crisis-affected civilian population in Ukraine & provide early recovery assistance as soon as feasible. To save & preserve lives, easy suffering & promote self-sufficiency. You can help through Rotary. Please give now. “
Our International committee is formulating a response, which I can share after the Board meeting on Tuesday.
District Conference – Albury 22 to 24th April. Please consider coming, especially all the new members, since this is best way to gain insight into the immense and exciting world of Rotary. Please let us know if you are coming so we can include you in our Friday night club dinner. We will be publicizing the “Lift the Lid” golf event at the conference and our own Richard Blakeman is a speaker. Many reasons for considering the journey.
Lift the Lid Golf even May 24th – The night now is an official Rotary night so there is a dinner to socially attend if not golfing. Please entice others to consider coming to both golf and dinner or just the dinner.
Changeover Date – Our Changeover is June 14th. Please place this date in your diaries for the big social event on our calendar.
Afghan Music Event – The Board voted in principle to support this venture. It appears that we will follow a different path and look at the Afghan situation from a different perspective. More to come.
Another reflection - "There is no reconciliation until you recognize the dignity of the other, until you see their view- you have to enter into the pain of the people. You've got to feel their need." ~ John M. Perkins
Enjoy another week of Rotary. The Board meets tomorrow so I will have more to communicate next week.
