Welcome all.
We were lucky to hear from a fellow Rotarian, Steve Crosling about ShelterBox. This organisation provides shelter, essential items and technical assistance to help some of the world’s most vulnerable people recover and rebuild their homes after disaster. ShelterBox listens and adapts its support to the needs of each community, working together with those affected by disaster. Countries assisted include Myanmar, Syria and Gaza.
At the meeting we also welcomed Julia Komugabi. We hope she enjoyed the meeting. She appeared to and we look forward to seeing her again.
Insurance has been a topic we have explored at the last two board meetings. As such a sub-committee, consisting of, the Club Secretary, Club Service Director, President & Farmers Market Director, will be formed. It will investigate insurance matters and then will report back to the board with relevant recommendations.
The Farmers Market had a successful market with excellent results. The theme was “Christmas in July”. The patronage was 915 and net takings were $4,750. It was a perfect day, and we had Lawrie Man as Santa, with assistant Jenny DeVos, doing laps of the market dispensing sweets. Joanne Shentu sold many Xmas puddings & cakes.
We had a request from Camcare asking if the RCG would be able to help at several working bees at No 4 Y Street Ashburton, to clear the site and build a new garden for growing vegetables. This is for a new community project that Camcare is going to run at this site. The first working bee was held on Wednesday 29th July and we had 7 Rotarians involved. If you would like to help at the next working bee Wednesday 12th August contact Paul Shekleton.
The International committee and the Sumba Eye Program – The next team leaves on September 5th for a week led by Mark Ellis. The new registrar is already there in Waikububak hospital. So, the trip will involve supervising in surgery and within the clinic.
Thanks to all those who assisted in the Bread Run, RIMERN & Power Assist Basketball over the last couple of weeks.
The Club Forum will be held on August 11th at the club dinner meeting. The purpose of this evening is to obtain feedback from members on all aspects of the club’s activities and of the many programs in which we are involved. We will hear from directors about their committees and what projects they are involved in. Also, we will have a discussion on ways we can run the club better. For eg Fellowship.
Don’t forget the lunch on Wednesday 19th August at the Glenferrie Hotel.
