The two guest speakers at our last dinner meeting, Mel Key, General Manager of Programs and Operations and Nikko Riazi, Chairperson of the Education Chances Foundation, expressed their keen desire to inform and update members of our club about the important work they do for the program, “Education Chances.” For most of the time that the Boroondara Farmers Market has been in existence, this program has received half of the proceeds from the Boroondara Farmers Market, which have been given to them by the City of Boroondara. Over the years, many students who have experienced financial hardship, which has impeded their educational potential, have succeeded in their studies with the aid of financial scholarships and many have proceeded to further tertiary study. We were delighted to have several other members of Education Chances join us for the evening and meet up with club members.
The last Board meeting for this Rotary year occurred on Thursday the 28th of May. It was a combined meeting with the outgoing Board and the incoming Board. It was held at Secretary Don’s home as a more personal end to the year and a welcome to the new Board. The current Board will maintain stewardship of the club until the last day of June.
Our Changeover Dinner is approaching, and we would like as many of you as possible to attend. This is an important function in our yearly calendar whereby we pass the current Presidency and Board of the club over to a new President and a new Board. It is a chance to dress up and enjoy having our partners, family members, Rotarians from other clubs and dignitaries, such as members of Boroondara Council, and from our Rotary District.
We would love you to register for the Changeover as soon as you can as this makes planning the event so much easier.
Masaya Endo, our Rotary Foundation Scholarship recipient, whom our club is hosting for two years, is unable to attend our club Changeover nor the District Changeover because his mother is not well. Masaya will be returning to Japan for a period of about a month to spend time with his family. Masaya has received the club’s support from members of the club who have taken major responsibility for hosting him. We wish Masaya and his mother and family well, and we look forward to seeing him on his return.
