We welcomed to our Club Meeting on Tuesday 12th September, Ken Maxfield from the Rotary Club of North Balwyn, to speak about his involvement with Camp Getaway D9800.

Camp Getaway started in 1948 and is located at Axedale near Bendigo. Initially it was to provide a service to needy children in the Bendigo area. It has had major makeovers thanks to volunteers from Rotary 9800, and now boasts modern living accommodation and a commercial kitchen for groups to self-cater for their extended weekends away.

Ken Maxfield came to inform us of the importance of this facility in providing a meeting place to welcome people of all abilities, to a sanctuary away from their daily struggles.

The Camp is available for family groups, church groups, special functions and business meetings, to make bookings for their needs. The service is most likely to be booked out 6 months in advance, so popular is this Camp!

Groups making bookings usually have 100% access to the facilities, which ensures the privacy and/or bonding experience that they are looking for when going there.

Ken was passionate in his promotion of his work with Camp Getaway, and we could feel his desire for all of us to share in this his Rotary experience. It is fine example of the power of being a volunteer in Rotary and we salute his passion and endeavours.

It was a pleasure to hear from Ken Maxfield and we thank him for his presence at our Club Meeting.
