On 24th we had Maria Pantling as Member Behind the Badge. Maria told us an enthralling story of being born in war torn Europe to Ukrainian parents who had fled to Poland, then fled to Czechoslovakia and then Germany, in efforts to avoid both the Communists and the Nazis. Her family finally made it to Australia via a refugee camp.

Maria told us about her adventures in a much more benign Europe as a young adult. She also treated us to an excerpt of her culture with a film of Ukrainian dancers. Finally, she told us of her career as a teacher, and move to Mt Beauty and happy marriage, and her move to Melbourne.

An amazing story from a relatively new member, but an experienced Rotarian.
