As a member of Rotary Glenferrie, I am continually amazed at the activities undertaken by our one little Club. We are building toilets in Sierra Leone and giving people back their vision. On the home front our programs like the Cookery Class for the Homeless are imparting skills both to the clients and indeed to some of the members.
In a world where the terms “making a difference “and “raising awareness” are used so often that their meaning has been debased. It does indeed make a difference and raise awareness in numerous areas, as well as providing a fantastic forum for fellowship. As was seen by the amazing address from our member Lindy Joubert, the activities of the members are not just confined to Rotary activities. There are many members making their mark in the community in other areas. Long may it continue.
On Tuesday evening we were treated to a wonderful “Member behind the Badge” speech by Lindy Joubert. Lindy is an Honorary Senior Fellow in Architecture at the University of Melbourne and has been associated with Melbourne University for many years. Lindy has a very impressive resume - her roles include:
Consulting at UNESCO Paris headquarters for three years - 2000-2003
In 2006 she was the Founding Director of the inaugural UNESCO Observatory at the University of Melbourne
Vice President World Craft Council Asia Pacific region from 2012 (more roles on the next page)

Congratulations to Helena Wimpole, the lucky winner of the “Bring Along a Guest” promotion over 2023 / 2024, as drawn by President Peter at the last Club Dinner. With delightful surprise, Helena received a lovely bottle of Chandon bubbles, along with some exquisite chocolates. Overall, much appreciation to the handful of Members who participated in this promotion last year; it added to the flavour of the night. This promotion is back again in 2024 / 2025! We look forward to many more Members getting excited and bringing along a guest this year.
It was a wet and windy old Farmers Market on July 20th, but that didn't stop these three Glenferrie Rotarians from getting into the spirit of things! Crowds and stallholder numbers were below average for the day, but those who did come received the usual warm and friendly greeting, hail, rain or shine. The next Farmers Market on August 3rd will be something really special, with lots of fun and activities for kids and kids at heart (as well as the usual fresh produce, savoury lunches, hot coffee and friendship.
Glenferrie Rotarians Simon Messenger, PP Cheryl Pisterman and Paul Shekleton weren't about to let a little wind and rain spoil the Market July 20th. No sirrreee!

Doc, I can’t stop singing the ‘Green Green Grass of Home’. He said: “That sounds like Tom Jones syndrome.” “Is it common?” I asked. “It’s not unusual” he replied.
I’m on a whiskey diet. I’ve lost three days already.
I was having dinner with Garry Kasporov (world chess champion) and there was a check tablecloth. It took him two hours to pass me the salt.
