I dropped into to the Essential Service market day. It was terrific to see so many people having such a good time, even if the weather could not make up its mind whether to cooperate or not. As usual the Fire Brigade was a big hit with the kids. Also of note, was the Blood Bank whose Camberwell facility will be opening shortly. The band organized by Felix was also a great hit. Just a terrific day all round. Congratulations once again to the Committee who no doubt nearly drowned on Friday setting up.
The Club has purchased a Defibrillator for use at the Farmers Market and any other Rotary activity. Defibrillators have been proven to be one of the most important tools in saving the life of someone suffering sudden cardiac arrest. The unit is easy to use by a first responder, regardless of age, training and experience. We have three fully trained Club members, namely Paul Shekleton, Charles Tran and Alex Marshall. David Fallick will also undertake training. Charles Tran will provide an overview of the Defibrillator and a how to use it guide at the Club dinner meeting on 29th October.
As you are no doubt aware, fifty per cent of the net proceeds of the funds generated by the Farmers' Market are distributed to Education Chances Foundation.
ECF provides just over 100 scholarships each year to finance students who are in a state secondary school and who either live or attend school in Boroondara.
ECF is running an event at 6.30 pm on 6th November at Hawthorn Town Hall.
If you would like to know more about ECF or are a long-time supporter, please get a ticket and come along.
