President's Message
The new Rotary Year has well and truly started. The Rotary Theme selected by RI President Stephanie Urchick is “the Magic of Rotary “. As has been said many times, this is a bit of an inside joke as all Rotarians know that magic happens with a heck of a lot of time and effort by all Rotarians. Many thanks to Past President Mark Howlett for a wonderful year of leadership and delivering to me a Club in such great shape. I will do my best not to drive it onto the rocks.

I feel that I have accomplished something by getting through my first meeting(s), the EGM beautifully orchestrated by Secretary Geoff, and our Club Forum where most of the directors were able to set out their plans for the year.

D9800 Changeover
A group of Club members attended the District 9800 Changeover on Sunday 30 June 2024.  District Governor 2023-24 Ron Payne wrapped up his year and inducted Michael Lapina to the DG role for 2024-25. Of particular interest was the number and variety of projects that are running in the District. Awards were announced in each Service category and from 62 nominations, the following Clubs and their projects were recognized.

Fellowship on a 3rd Wednesday of the Month
A number of members have enquired about replacing the fellowship of our Week 3 meeting. As an experiment I have decided to institute the inaugural Presidents Lunch. Whilst this sounds impressive, basically I have decided to have lunch in the back section of the Glenferrie Hotel at 12.30 pm on Wednesday 17 July. I hope that members, partners and friends will join me, and we can have some lively conversation.

Given the amount of travel that members have been undertaking I am sure that there are some terrific stories to be told. There is no need to book, indeed no need to order a meal but I would like some idea of who might be attending so I can liaise with the hotel, especially if numbers are quite large.
Details - Inaugral Lunch
Address: Glenferrie Hotel 324 Burwood Road, Hawthorn
Time: 12.30pm
Date: Wednesday 17th July

Foresight Sumba Eye Program Fund Raiser
I am in great need of support to assist the Foresight Sumba Eye Program’s fund raiser on November 22nd. As you are aware it is one of RC Glenferrie and Kew’s major International Projects and has brought huge kudos to both clubs.

At Grace Park, 2 Hilda Crescent, Hawthorn, I have paid the deposit for this venue and organised a musical background (Piano background - so not overly noisy). There is room for 150 seats on tables of 10.

BUT I need your assistance in making the night a success. The main reason is to promote the eye program in Sumba.

It was having a bad hare day.

Member Behind the Badge

Lindy Joubert is an Honorary Senior Fellow in Architecture at the University of Melbourne with an outsanding career in service, both in Australia and throughout the world. The member behind the badge is where we get an opportunity to learn more about our fellow Rotarians than usually comes up in general conversation and, of all meeting topics presented, are the most meaningful. Come along and hear from Linday directly. What she has to share is truly amazing.
