Our last meeting featured a fascinating talk by PP Mark Howlett, about his amazing motorcycle trip through India, with other Rotarians. Mark gave us an insight into an amazing country and the contrasts between wealth and poverty, as India continues its move towards being a totally modern country, as well as telling us about the great time that he had.
It also gave us an insight into the life of a “rockstar” as Mark was apparently mistaken for the Toilet warrior and instantly achieved celebrity status.
The application by the Rotary Club of Glenferrie to be formally accepted as a Peacebuilder Club has been approved by the Rotary Action Group For Peace. As a Peacebuilder Club, Rotary Glenferrie will consciously choose to focus on peace and assist in furthering Rotary's mission to “enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace.” This will involve the initiation of new projects specifically aimed at promoting peace, as well as recognising that many of the club's existing projects already promote peace, understanding and goodwill among families and communities.
The Rotary Four-Way Test, a guiding ethical framework adopted by Rotary International in 1943, consists of four questions that members are encouraged to apply in their personal and professional lives.
These questions are simple yet profound, embodying principles that, when practiced, can significantly contribute to fostering peace at both individual and collective levels. By promoting truth, fairness, goodwill, and mutual benefit, the Four-Way Test offers a roadmap to peaceful coexistence, trust, and harmony in a diverse and often divided world.
Last Tuesday we were fortunate to have one of our own in Past President Mark Howlett as our guest speaker. Mark told us of his experiences on a Rotary motorcycle tour in India recently. The tour was organised by the Rotary Club of Mysore in Southern India. It included 45 riders from 14 countries, and they travelled 1600 kilometres in 16 days. The tour started in Udaipur and travelled through Ahmedabad, Aishwarya, Vadodara, Bharuch, Pune, Kolhapur, Goa and finished in Mysore.
Some of Mark’s highlights were: Tasting real Indian food also the reverence given to cattle, particularly the need to give way to them, even on a freeway. More highlights on the next page.
What a great Children's Day Market we had a fortnight ago! Many of our stallholders sold out and the children had a great time.
Thank you to all Rotarians who planned it and those who worked on the day.

A call out for extra helpers on the Bread Run, please.
It is a relatively small commitment of just one hour, 6pm – 7pm, on a Thursday to collect bread from the generous Bakers Delight, 515 Riversdale Rd Camberwell, and deliver it to the worthy Salvation Army, 7 Bowen St Camberwell, a short drive away.
Thank you SO much to Simon, who is doing the run every two weeks, and the other regular generous givers of their time – Paul, David, Alex, Michael and Kay. As there needs to be two people at each delivery, those wonderful members above are covering it over and over. Would members please check the Roster and give some relief to Simon, Paul, David, Alex, Michael and Kay?
