The first meeting of my presidency including the EGM to approve the new Constitution has been completed without incident. By way of background RI looks at the Constitution every three years and mandates changes. David Whiting who spoke to the Club a couple of years ago, wrestles with the draft and makes it comply with Victorian law. If anyone has concerns about the Constitution now is the time to raise them before the next round.
We have also had our first Board meeting which again went well. Anyone who thinks they might be interested in joining the leadership group for 2025/26 should reach out to myself, Helena W or Mark H sooner rather than later.
At our next meeting we are inducting a new member, Christine McCann so hope to see you all there in a show of support.
Fifteen of us including members and partners, had a most pleasant and convivial lunch at the Glenferrie Hotel on 17 July. The food was good, the fellowship was terrific, and we were well looked after by the staff. It was an experiment that should be repeated.
However, there are many different ways we can explore fellowship in this week, either during the day or the evening. Events such as movie nights, theatre nights or matinees, or museum visits come to mind. If you have ideas for an event don’t keep it to yourself, let us know and we will see if we can make it happen.
One of the most rewarding aspects of being a Rotary member can be found by joining one of our committees. This will enable you to take a hands-on approach to the Projects in which the Club is involved.
For new members it is a great way to learn more about the Club and your fellow members. It is also a gateway to leadership in the Club. Our preference is that each member joins a committee, but it is certainly not compulsory. Also remember that you can join more than one committee.
For senior members who might feel that they have “been there and done that” I would ask that you reconsider. We value your experience and Rotary expertise and wish to utilise it as a valuable asset of the Club.
As a reminder in 2024 /2025 we have the following committees led by the following members listed on the next page:

Lindy Joubert is an Honorary Senior Fellow in Architecture at the University of Melbourne with an outsanding career in service, both in Australia and throughout the world. The member behind the badge is where we get an opportunity to learn more about our fellow Rotarians than usually comes up in general conversation and, of all meeting topics presented, are the most meaningful. Come along and hear from Linday directly. What she has to share is truly amazing.
