The Club Forum at our dinner meeting on August 11th gave us an opportunity to do something every healthy Rotary club should do from time to time: stop, listen and ask ourselves where we are going. I was encouraged by the level of participation and by the ideas members contributed. There was plenty of enthusiasm for new fellowship, fundraising and service activities, and some thoughtful suggestions about membership, both attracting new members and keeping our existing members engaged. These are not simply matters for the Membership Committee or the club board. They are challenges for all of us.
For me, one message from the Forum stood out. Our club has plenty of ideas and plenty of opportunities. Our challenge now is to turn that enthusiasm into action.
Big changes have been announced for the club's Bread Run project. For many years the club has collected from the Baker's Delight store in Camberwell, but that has now long closed. Thanks to Community Service Committee member Simon Messenger, however, the project has been saved. The delivery place is still the same. Every Thursday evening we will continue to deliver to the Salvos in Camberwell. But now there is a new bread collection source. Bakers Delight Tooronga! Good news too. As a Peacebuilder Club, the Rotary Club of Glenferrie will host a famous sausage sizzle at Bunnings Hawthorn on Saturday 12th to raise funds for ShelterBox, the global humanitarian organisation that began with an idea from just one Rotary club in the UK.
ShelterBox provides emergency shelter and supplies for people just like you and me who are suffering after a natural, or man-made, disaster. Right now, over 120 million people around the world have been made homeless by disaster and conflict. ShelterBox is working to change this. By providing emergency shelter and tools for families robbed of their homes by disaster, ShelterBox is transforming despair into hope. Please help! Volunteer now. Well the Council's compost may not have turned up for Garden Day at the Boroondara Farmers Market, but the patrons and stallholders sure did. There were of course all the usual fabulous produce and food stalls, but the Council's Sustainability stall proved popular, with their amazing seed bombs and seedling give-aways. Attendances continue to grow for the market, which is very good news with spring just around the corner. The next market this coming Saturday, August 29th, will be the ever popular doggy day. So bring your pooch and enjoy a morning's shopping with friends, including four-legged ones. Now that's something special you won't get at the supermarket!

On Tuesday 18th August, The Rotary Club of Glenferrie (“RCG”) participated in annual Swinburne Employment Expo, to provide graduating students the opportunity to understand issues related to future employment; being a volunteer or part time or full time in work and to learn about volunteering in Rotary.
It also gave RCG the opportunities to present our Club and hear what students are looking for in the transition to employment.

Congratulations to Balwyn Rotary and everyone associated with the Camberwell Sunday Market, celebrating its 50th anniversary on Sunday August 30th. What a fabulous milestone, what magnificant, lasting impact funds raised have had on the lives of others. Truly, doing good in the world.
Water Storage and Reticulation Project Sierra Leone
The club's water storage and reticulation project at the Aladura Primary School in Buedu Sierra Leone, was completed over 12 months in partnership with the Rotary Club of Bo, Sierra Leone, and with funding assistance from Rotary Balwyn and the Australian Government. It involved construction of a water storage tower, the installation of a solar powered pump and the renovation of an existing well, the installation of plumbing to the school building and to the two toilet blocks delivered under an earlier project, and the installation of solar powered lighting throughout the school grounds to improve safety and security.
