Currently, Mark Ellis is in Sumba with the Sumba Eye Program. The trip includes providing supervision in surgery and within the clinic. Mark has taken trips to Sumba over many years. It has been a wonderful endeavour and we recognise his work and the efforts of his team.

At our meeting on 25 August, we were fortunate to have a presentation from the Rotary Club of Bo in Sierra Leone. By the magic of technology Taplima Muana and Paul Koroma were beamed into our meeting via zoom. In the past couple of years, the Rotary Club of Glenferrie has completed two significant projects with the Rotary Club of Bo at the Aladura Primary School in Buedu in the far east of Sierra Leone.

What a wonderful day it was at the Boroondara Farmers Market on Saturday August 29th for our much-loved Doggy Day! With more than 1,170 patrons joining us, the market was buzzing with sunshine, community spirit and, of course, plenty of happy four-legged friends. A special thank you to our new vet, Georgina Frazer, for joining us and supporting this fantastic community event. Thank you to everyone who came along, supported our local producers and businesses, and helped make Doggy Day such a great success. We look forward to welcoming you to our next market to be held Saturday 19 September - ‘Kids Day’.

Thanks to Foundation Director Joanne Shentu and a basket of willing sausage sizzlers we are all set for a successful fundraiser at Bunnings Hawthorn, September 12th. But do spread the word and come along for lunch if you can. The sausages are said to be exceptional!
Funds raised will go towards ShelterBox Australia, currently engaged in providing emergency shelter and supplies for victims of the tragedy in Nepal.

I have been in many places, but have never been in Cahoots. Apparently, you can't go alone; you have to be in Cahoots with someone.
I've also never been in Cognito either. Not all that interesting a place, I hear no one recognizes you there.
I have, however, been in Sane. They don't have an airport; you have to be driven there. I have made several trips to that destination thanks to my children.
Forced Organ Harvesting. What is it and what can we do about it?
Sophie Chen and Amy Yan are members of the End Forced Organ Harvesting Satellite Club, Distrioct 5710, Kansas USA which received its charter in June 2022. Forced organ harvesting, a crime against humanity, has been going on for over 20 years. Its success is a great example of how cause-based clubs can support satellite clubs with a niche focus related to theirs and grow Rotary's impact. Forced organ harvesting is the systematic, non-consensual removal of vital organs from living or recently executed humans for profit or state use, most prominently occurring in China. It primarily targets detained prisoners of conscience, such as Falun Gong practitioners and Uyghur Muslims. Sophie and Amy are young professionals lviong in Melbourne, who have committed themselves thropugh Rotary to helping stamp out this invidious trade in humanity.
