President's Message

It was very pleasant for all members to gather again for our first regular meeting of the year.

During the meeting we heard from some young adults with ambitions and the courage to take on the world’s challenges.

Of course the venue for our regular meetings is front of mind and the committee has been active in understanding the options. A reminder that we meet at 6pm Tuesday 20th  February at the Amora Riverwalk Hotel where we will spend the first hour discussing the options. All active members will be given an online survey soon after this meeting which will determine how we proceed.

As always, please check the website roster for opportunities to volunteer.

Club Meeting Report - RYLA - Sebastien Krueger and Greta Sullivan
RYLA is a rotary district project which is run for a week in December. The program aims at focusing on personal growth, leadership development and sense of community.
Overview of what candidates did in their time at RLYA. This included each day doing around 3 - 4 activities/speaker sessions. Each day in groups students reflected on what they had done that day. In the middle of their stay all candidates went camping. There was also a special Rotary dinner where they presented to members what they had done during the week.
What did I get from RYLA - (Sebastien) Values & Vision activity especially beneficial, the ability to express freely without judgement, forming connections with likeminded people and the development of communication skills.

Clean Up Australia Day
CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY: 9.30AM SUNDAY 3RD MARCH 2024

It would be great if as many members as possible were able to participate in our Club's Clean Up Australia event. In brief, as many will know, we spend 2hours during the morning picking up rubbish in Patterson Reserve and surrounding streets.

Gloves and graspers are supplied and a very pleasant BBQ follows the Clean Up. There is a sign up page on the website under the Rosters tab within the Member Resources section. I look forward to seeing many of our members for a pleasant half day.

Cheers
Alex Marshall

Put a spring in your step. Become a LightWalker Ambassador!!
The fantastic LightWalker walking stick with a torch is proving enormously popular in an overcrowded walking stick market. Since sales started in December the club has sold almost 200 walking sticks, raising over $3,000 so far for the club's project in Sierra Leone. Of those 200 sticks sold, however, only eight (that's right, just eight) have been sold online.

People need to see LightWalker to believe it, and when they see it they want it. Thank you to all the Glenferrie Rotarians who, as LightWalker Ambassadors,  are right now selling these fantastic walking sticks. A special thank you to our fabulous Maria Pantling who this month sold twenty-four LightWalkers in one order to Supply and Demand. And that was right after Maria accepted an order from Orrong Compounding Pharmacy for an order of six!

So please put your hand up to become a LightWalker Ambassador and demonstrate the walking sticks to family and friends, and to your network of contacts, and thank you so much for helping out.  Email me to arrange for some complimentary demo walking sticks to help you sell this fantastic product, at almost half price! The proceeds will build two toilet blocks and provide fresh water for the children of Buedu, Sierra Leone, and anyone can sell them. Ask Maria!

LightWalker Telescopic has a shock absorber foot that helps protect users against a painful jarred shoulder and really does put a spring in your step. But that's nothing compared with how you feel when you sell one! Email me!

End Polio - Our Signature Project Continues
As we enter a new calendar year, hopefully having had a restful break from all of the wonderful work we do in the service of the peoples of the world, it is important to bring our focus back onto our No. 1 priority as we prepare to undertake yet another period of ‘Doing Good in the World.’

The Polio challenge remains and, while that elusive finish line continues to tease us, we know we must not relent and I encourage you to continue your individual and club endeavours to support our Foundation in working towards eradication.
